CHERRY Street Sports Club delivered a special Christmas present to Lismore Base Hospital with a box of superhero t-shirts for kids.

The Supertees medical garments come in the form of superhero outfits for kids to wear during their time in hospital.

They are inspired by Captain America and Marvel superheroes with more than 1000 kids from across the Northern Rivers region having now received a shirt in 2024.

It is the third time this year the Ballina bowling club has been able to support the paediatric ward at the hospital.

“When Lismore hospital reached out, we couldn’t wait to answer the call and bring a splash of colour, courage and smiles to the incredible kids spending their summer in hospital,” a spokesperson from the bowling club said.

“A huge shoutout to the amazing nurses for the care and love they provide every day and a heartfelt thank you to everyone supporting the Supertee mission.”

The supertee group runs as a national charity with the Cherry Street club also supporting its neighboring hospital at Ballina.

The original idea came from Jason Sotiris in Sydney after his daughter Angela was diagnosed with a rare illness at the age of one.

He wanted to find a symbol to highlight the bravery of sick children and found a way to use it as practical and fun alternative to children’s traditional hospital gowns.

The shirts are made with material suitable to be worn at a hospital and do not interfere with tubes and other medical equipment such as MRI machines.

Since its inception in 2018, it has helped thousands of kids and their parents. It won the Australian good design award for social impact the following year.

The charity continues to grow by ongoing support from clubs and groups around the country. Donations can be made at supertee.org.au/donate.
