COMMUNITY feedback is open on a proposal to confirm names and adjust boundaries for four beaches in Byron Shire.

The Geographical Names Board is considering a submission from Byron Shire Council to formalise the names Brunswick Heads Beach and Tyagarah Beach, and amend the extents of Belongil Beach and Main Beach.

The proposed changes aim to correct historical anomalies and ensure consistency across official maps, emergency services data and other records.

Under the proposal, Brunswick Heads Beach would extend from the southern breakwater of the Brunswick River to the boundary of Tyagarah Nature Reserve, while Tyagarah Beach would run for about 6.3 kilometres south to Belongil Beach.

Belongil Beach would be defined as stretching from Belongil Creek to the rock groin near Jonson and Bay streets in Byron Bay, and Main Beach would extend from the groin to Clarkes Beach.

Suggestions for new names are not being sought.

The Geographical Names Board said the review was focused solely on confirming the most commonly used local names and correcting boundary discrepancies.

Submissions can be made online until 11.59pm on Friday, May 16.
