Carols in the park returns to Murwillumbah

THE Murwillumbah community enjoyed the first Christmas carols event in five years last Friday evening.

Families, friends and neighbours gathered at Knox Park in the town’s centre in a big turnout, replete with picnic rugs, snacks and festive enthusiasm.

A detailed program presented schools, choirs and local musical talent, accompanied by the crowd in full voice.

Kicking off proceedings, Dungay Public School presented Feliz Navidad and Aussie Jingle Bells. East Murwillumbah Public School delivered Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and Wish You a Merry Christmas.

Murwillumbah Learning Community High School’s Joe Williams and Jack Scott supplied a joyful Christmas performance, and Heath and Rainer Tiffen performed Drummer Boy, Christmas Lights, and Christmas in Killarney.

Carly Fletcher sang Go Tell It On the Mountain, What Child is This, and Mary’s Boy Child.

Local star Emmagen Rain performed Last Christmas, O Holy Night, Put a Little Holiday in Your Heart, Santa Doesn’t Know You Like I Do, and the anthemic Hallelujah.

It was also a night of choirs with the Murwillumbah Philharmonic Choir in full voice with Angels from the Realms, Ding Dong Merrily on High, Silver Stars, and White Christmas.

The Voice Weavers presented Jingle Bells, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Joy to the World Winter Wonderland and more.

The finale brought in the crowd with full voice for Away in a Manger, Silent Night, and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

The night was proudly presented by Murwillumbah Rotary and Lions Clubs and Business Murwillumbah, and all organisers are looking forward to next year.

A Tweed Shire Council spokesperson said the council was proud to sponsor the occasion through the 2024-2025 Events sponsorship funding allocation. In addition to the Murwillumbah event, the council also sponsored carols in Kingscliff and Pottsville.
