Celebrating seniors in the Tweed

TWEED seniors will celebrate their community and contributions to local life at the upcoming annual Tweed Seniors Festival from March 3 to March 16.
As part of the NSW Seniors Festival, the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere, this year’s festivities theme is ‘Time to shine!’.
The Tweed event provides a comprehensive program of over 40 activities, events and entertainment to promote learning, fun and wellbeing.
Festival highlights include a curated bus trip to Mt Tamborine provided by Northern Breeze Tours and the Fun Activities for Banora Seniors (FABS) Open Day.
Various interests are represented in the program, including an introduction to family history, African drumming workshops and sessions on using technology.
For the creatively minded, the program offers workshops in mosaics, basket coiling, jewellery repair, botanical collage, painting and art making.
Wellbeing activities include sessions on ageing well, health and wellness, croquet, Classic Movers dance workshops and a seniors pickleball tournament.
The Tweed Local Achievement Awards will be announced at the opening ceremony on Monday, March 3, from 10 am at the Tweed Heads Civic and Cultural Centre Auditorium.
The event will feature information about local service providers, a complimentary morning tea from the Tweed Heads Hospital Auxiliary, entertainment by the Fiddle Faddle band and a ballroom dancing display.
Transport is available from Murwillumbah and Banora Point, and carpooling is recommended where possible.
