Chance to shape proposed sport centre
TWEED Shire council is seeking feedback to help build and purpose a new major sporting facility for the region.
It plans to build the Tweed Regional Indoor Sports and Aquatic Centre with a focus on community input.
Residents can join the project reference group which closes on Saturday, January 25.
It is open to all locals and would suit anyone who has an interest or association with community and sport clubs in the region.
The reference group will provide advice on the planning and development of the proposed centre.
Its purpose is to ensure the facility reflects community needs and aspirations while supporting council in making informed decisions.
Members are expected to participate actively and ensure the project aligns with community needs.
Regular meetings will be held online and in-person.
The group will have the power to review project plans and designs and offer advice and recommendations to the project team.
It will help with community input is included at every stage of the project’s planning and design.
Some ideas include it being purpose-built to include multiple courts to help clubs and schools host regional and representative competitions.
It would help indoor sports likes basketball and pickleball continue to grow.
Others sports suitable for indoor homes include futsal, netball and swimming.
