Community faith in Tweed leadership team
TWEED Shire residents have re-elected Cr Chris Cherry as Mayor and Cr Meredith Dennis OAM as Deputy Mayor at an Extraordinary Council Meeting last Thursday.
This is Cr Cherry’s fourth term as Mayor, having first joined the Council in 2016.Both Cr Cherry and Cr Dennis were elected unopposed after Cr James Owen and Cr Reece Byrnes declined nominations.
Cr Cherry thanked the community for its endorsement.
“The community has told me they like stability in leadership at this time, and I want to provide that,” Cr Cherry said.
“It is exciting to have five women elected to the Council and to see that reflected in our leadership.”
She highlighted affordable housing and managed growth as priorities, along with protecting local amenities.
Returning Councillors include Crs Rhiannon Brinsmead, Reece Byrne, Chris Cherry, Meredith Dennis, Nola Firth, and James Owen, with Kimberly Hone joining as the new member.
