BALLINA’S David Scott has earned a spot on the New South Wales golf croquet team for the Australian Golf Croquet Championships in September, marking a significant achievement in his rapid rise through the sport.

Mr Scott, who began playing croquet in 2016, will join team members from across NSW who are hoping to bring home their third consecutive title.

His journey started when his wife found an ad for a ‘come and try croquet’ session. “She asked me to join her, and that’s how it all started,” Mr Scott said.

Golf croquet, a strategic game that Mr Scott says combines elements of snooker and chess, requires precision and foresight.

“Each player has two balls, and the objective is to get the first ball through the hoop,” Mr Scott said.

“It’s about executing shots with precision and planning several moves ahead.”

Scott’s dedication to the game led him to retire at the end of 2017 to play more regularly.

His efforts paid off when he was selected for the state team that won the Interstate Shield in Perth last year.

“I’m excited and very humbled to be selected again,” he said. “It’s an honour to represent NSW and to be part of such a skilled team.”

The selection process for the state team is rigorous, involving several sessions and tournaments.

“Being selected for the squad itself is an honour,” Mr Scott said. “When I received the confirmation, I was thrilled.”

The NSW Golf Croquet team will compete in the Interstate Championships on the Sunshine Coast from September 4 to 8.
