Electrifying escape
INGENIA Holiday Parks Byron Bay has installed electric vehicle chargers to cater to growing demand from travellers.
Two tower ports have been added in the car park area for general use, plus two cabin ports for guests.
“It’s great to offer options for both day visitors and those enjoying an overnight stay with us,” Ingenia Holiday Parks Queensland & Northern NSW operations manager Ben Jones-Wilson said.
“It’s a big step towards making our parks more sustainable, and it means we’re keeping up with what our guests need when they’re on the road.”
Mr Jones-Wilson said the move has already sparked a lot of positive conversations.
“Even guests that don’t have an EV have mentioned that it’s good to know we have chargers in case they do invest in an electric car in the coming years,” he said.
“We’re keeping an eye on how these chargers are being used, and we’re open to adding more as the demand grows.
“While we don’t have exact plans yet, we’re thinking about installing additional chargers in busy spots like near the main facilities or other popular cabins.
“It’s really important to us to stay ahead of the curve and support the shift towards greener travel. Having EV chargers means we’re not just meeting the needs of today’s travellers but also helping to create a more sustainable future.”
Funding for the initiative came from the NSW Government’s Electric Vehicle Destination Grants program, which aims to build a comprehensive charging network across the state and encourage EV-friendly road trips.
By the end of 2024, Ingenia will have installed 44 new EV charging ports across 11 of its parks, enabling EV drivers to travel from Eden on the NSW South Coast up to Brisbane.
