From ice baths to AI – wellness tourism trends revealed at Byron summit
THE booming trend of social wellness bathing, evolving consumer sleep habits and the growing role of AI in wellness travel were just some of the key topics explored at last week’s Wellness Tourism Summit in Byron Bay.
Held over two days at Elements of Byron Resort, the summit attracted more than 120 delegates from across Australia and New Zealand – many of whom stayed for the whole week.

Summit founder Katherine Droga, who also created the Well Traveller website and TV series, said the event exceeded her expectations.
“Everything just flowed perfectly across all our speakers, networking and wellness activations,” she said.
“Elements at Byron was the perfect venue as the resort literally oozes wellbeing. It’s right on the beach, their sustainability credentials are amazing and their warm welcoming service and food made it a great two days.

“Byron Bay put on the best spring weather for us. Our morning Wake up to Wellness program, where delegates got to actually experience local yoga, surfing, mindful cacao ceremonies, native foraging walks and ice baths was also a hit.”
But Ms Droga said it was ultimately the people who attended that made the summit truly special.
“Everyone came with an open mind, an interest in learning new insights and in making new business collaborations and friendships,” she said. “This all created a beautiful buzz of collaboration and kindness.

“They loved coming to Byron Bay and connecting with other delegates to learn from each other. They love understanding more about sustainable wellness travel and the growth in wellness experiences, and of course creating local business collaboration opportunities.”
The next Wellness Tourism Summit is scheduled for 2026, with dates set around the same time next year. The location is yet to be announced. For updates, visit wellnesstourismsummit.com.au
