Funding for fishers

THE NSW Government has announced funding to enhance recreational fishing as part of the 2024/25 Recreational Fishing Trust Grants program.

The government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting recreational fishing and improving disabled access across the state, as recommended by the Recreational Fishing NSW Advisory Council.

Of the $1.8 million distributed over 24 projects, $26,210 has been allocated to Tumbulgum to provide local fish cleaning facilities next to the jetty and improve disabled access.

Minister for Agriculture and Regional NSW Tara Moriarty said that fishing licence fees had been put to work to improve the state’s recreational fishing facilities and habitats.

“I am pleased to see some significant new facilities being funded to welcome people with a disability into fishing around our state, either inland or along the coast,” Ms Moriarty said.

“The NSW Government is committed to supporting the recreational fishing community and seeing it contribute to regional tourism, creating jobs and generating income.”

Recreational Fishing Trust Grants will open for the next round of funding on November 6. Additionally, applications for the Government’s new $2 million recreational fishing small infrastructure grant program will open at the same time, making it easier for clubs, community groups and other organisations to apply for funding.
