Garden guru launches new book for kids
GARDENING guru Costa Georgiadis is coming to Mullumbimby in January to launch his new book, Costa’s Garden: Flowers.
Costa is the multiple Logie award-winning host of ABC TV’s Gardening Australia and Gardening Australia Jr as well as a regular on DirtGirlWorld’s Get Grubby TV.
Costa has teamed up with permaculture illustrator Brenna Quinlan to publish a book about flowers for young green thumbs.
It is the first in a series of books for young gardeners that the garden gnome Costa was keen to share with the public.
“I can’t wait to bring the beauty and magic of nature to young readers, and guess what? Book One is blooming,” Costa said.
Readers are urged to reflect on their ‘flower stories’ and the beauty they bring to the world.
“Flowers really are such metrognomes around our day to day. Flowers are the part of a plant that ‘smiles’. Flowers make us smile too! And there are so many different kinds of flowers – all the colours of the rainbow,” he said.
Quinlan uses her art to inspire positive action in the world, and her work has appeared in books such as RetroSuburbia, Milkwood, and Costa’s World.
The book will be launched at Mullumbimby as part of a tour of the east coast of Australia from Woodford Folk Festival in Queensland to The Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney and Cygnet Folk Festival in Tasmania.
The Mullumbimby launch will feature permaculture party band Formidable Vegetable and Grammy-winning kid-hop MC, Secret Agent 23 Skidoo.
Guests are encouraged to dress as a garden gnome or favourite flower.
The event is on Saturday, January 4 at 55 Dalley Street, Mullumbimby.
