Grants open to help clubs run Gone Fishing Day

GRANTS are now open with Ballina one of the selected regional venues to host the annual Gone Fishing Day in October.

Local fishing clubs can apply for a $2000 package to host a variety of activities including casting demonstrations and workshops. NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development acting director of fisheries management Bryan Van Der Walt said clubs can also use the funds to purchase items for the day.

“The fishing packages includes rod and reel sets, giveaways, and advisory information” Mr Van Der Walt said.

“Clubs can purchase items like fishing gear, bait, food and non-alcoholic beverages and equipment hire to assist in hosting their own event.

“Gone Fishing Day is a highlight of the recreational fishing year, promoting the benefits of this fun, healthy activity to the whole community.”

Last year, anglers of all ages took part with the Richmond River a hive of activity.

More than 100 fishing clubs across the state benefited from financial assistance.

The fishing events and activities are supported by the Fisheries and the Recreational Fishing Trust.

The Day aims to acknowledges the positive impact the industry has on our economy and communities.

Applications for grants and fishing packages close on Thursday, July 24.

The fishing day will be held on Sunday, October 19 with information on how to apply for funding at dpi.nsw.gov.au.
