THE Draft Master Plan for Hampton Park Reserve in Ballina is now on public exhibition. Ballina Shire Council is seeking input from the community on the plans to upgrade the recreational space alongside Cherry Street Bowling Club.

After broad community consultation in 2024, the Council identified key user groups and insights about community use, needs and aspirations.

A Draft Master Planning Report was presented at the November 28 Ordinary Council Meeting, where it was decided that an amended draft master plan for public exhibition should be prepared.

During the consultation, residents submitted suggestions that included protecting the fig trees and providing new shade trees as community green space was important for the informal enjoyment of the reserve.

Drainage and flooding impacts concerned the community, as did improving car parking and footpath connections.

In addition, many sporting groups expressed interest in expanding their court capacity at Hampton Park.

There is currently no funding allocated for the project; however, once finalised, the Master Plan will inform the management framework and support future investment, planning and implementation of works.

The council is inviting the community to read the Draft Master Plan and submit feedback online. Submissions close on Friday, February 28.
