YOUNG and old came together with beating drums, guitars and tambourines at Connecting Generations Bangalow’s spring event on the weekend.

Families also enjoyed a free sausage sizzle, with meat donated by Herne’s Butchery in Bangalow and bread, condiments and vegetarian options supplied by Foodworks Bangalow.

Around 70 people attended the community gathering at the Bangalow Heritage House and Museum on Saturday afternoon.

“With the cost-of-living crisis it’s so important to provide opportunities for families to socialise and make connections,” Connecting Generations Bangalow’s founder Ruth Winton-Brown said.

“There was lots of very positive feedback about the barbecue and the drumming circle.”

Winton-Brown said she enjoyed seeing the multi-generational involvement.

“The oldies joined in with the drumming circle and liked it as much as the little kids,” she said.

“There was one little boy playing his guitar and he was right on the rhythm and then he swapped to the drum and he set the beat. Another girl played her saxophone.”

Children also joined in making wizard wands from sticks and feathers, spray-painting Christmas cards using stencils from nature such as gum leaves and fossicked for gems donated by Crystal Castle.

Connecting Generations Bangalow runs seasonal events designed to bring together young families and older community members through creative and social activities such as art, craft and music, in partnership with Bangalow Men’s Shed and Gen Connect.
