Marvell Hall reopens after $756,000 renovation
MARVELL Hall will celebrate its $756,000 upgrade this Saturday, following major renovations that have transformed the Byron Bay community space.
The Byron Bay community space underwent major works including asbestos removal, new air-conditioning, accessibility improvements, soundproofing, and the installation of a semi-commercial kitchen.
The upgrade was funded through Byron Shire Council’s Capital Works Program, with an additional $65,000 contribution from hall operations.
Byron Shire mayor Sarah Ndiaye said the project had transformed the facility into a more inclusive and functional venue.
“The halls play such a vital role in bringing our community together, and these upgrades have created more functional and accessible spaces, making Marvell Hall an even better facility for all,” she said.
Saturday’s celebration at 37 Marvell Street will begin with a free Move It Dance Fitness taster class at 10am, followed by morning tea at 10.30am and the chance to explore the upgraded hall.
Renovation works were completed in December 2024 and included the removal of asbestos-containing materials throughout the building, acoustic upgrades to Oodgeroo Hall, and the replacement of wall linings. The former
loading ramp was demolished and replaced with a compliant accessible ramp. The kitchen was rebuilt to semi-commercial standard to meet food safety regulations, and a former storeroom was upgraded to meet fire safety standards. Electrical systems were also upgraded throughout.
Cr Ndiaye encouraged locals to visit the hall and see the improvements firsthand.
“I recently did my first Move It class, and it was so much fun! It’s a great opportunity to connect with others in the community. I warmly invite everyone to come along and join us,” she said.
