Mindfulness for the modern tween
TWEEN girls are being invited to attend a special school holidays mindfulness workshop at Bangalow Uniting Church on January 31.
The Self Love Club is a passion project for Good Vibes Gang founder and Clunes mum Kate Vandermeer, who also runs monthly full moon ceremonies for women.
She said the workshops offer a place where girls aged eight to 12 can get together to learn about mindfulness through games, craft, yoga, meditation and play.
Topics include energy and chakras, friendship, astrology, crystals, aromatherapy, seasons and moon magic, with activities such as making sage sticks, concocting perfume potions with essential oils and playing charades.
Vandermeer previously co-owned a gift store in Melbourne with her husband and became interested in crystals and aromatherapy through products she sold there.
“When we moved up here in 2022 I thought I want to move more into this,” she said.
One of her aims is making ‘woo woo’ concepts easier to digest.
“Around here every man and his dog is a healer of some sort and there’s a variety of modalities people can work with,” she said.
“The Self Love Club started as a school holiday workshop last April and I had a really strong response. A lot of parents said they have a sensitive daughter who feels things deeply and word spread organically.
“It’s been a really beautiful, fulfilling thing for me to help these girls.”
The workshop is being held from 9.30am to 12pm on Friday January 31. It costs $49, including a crystal to take home.
