New streetscape for Newrybar
BALLINA Shire Council is inviting the community to contribute to a draft streetscape master plan for Newrybar.
The study area for the master plan will focus on the streetscape in the centre, which the Council will further develop with community consultation towards a future roadmap for the area.
Established in the 1880s, the appealing hamlet is one of the earliest colonial settlements in the shire and the surrounding region.
Ballina Council Landscape Architect Sheryn Da-Re said she looked forward to hearing input from local residents.
“We understand the community values the quiet rural atmosphere and heritage beauty of Newrybar,” she said.
“We want to retain this, but there are some improvements that could be made.
“We need residents and business operators to share their ideas, whether it’s opportunities to increase shade and amenity, improve road safety, support events, activations, public art or green spaces.”.
Newrybar residents can give feedback in various ways, including an online survey and mapping their ideas onto the dedicated Your Say page.
Council will host a two-part community design workshop on the evening of Monday, November 11, from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm and the morning of Wednesday, November 13, from 7.30 am to 9 am.
Funding still needs to be secured for the implementation of any improvements. The master plan, once completed, will resource the Council to seek the grants required to realise Newrybar’s rejuvenation.
Submissions close on Monday, November 25 and the community can visit the online interactive map and survey until that date.
