A LONG-awaited Telstra tower in Newrybar has finally been switched on, leading to improved 4G and 5G mobile coverage in the area.

“We know the community’s been looking forward to this site for a long time and I’m pleased to say we have completed construction and the site is now on-air,” Telstra regional general manager Michael Marom said.

“The additional 4G and 5G mobile coverage will allow customers to make calls and access our network in more places, and also improve capacity to ensure a better experience.”

Standing 40 metres tall, the tower was originally slated for construction last year near the existing NBN tower at 161 Broken Head Road.

The project sparked division among Newrybar residents. While the property owner who hosted the tower received compensation, some neighbours raised concerns that the structure would obstruct their views and negatively impact property values.

Mr Marom said that over the seven years leading up to the end of the 2024 financial year, Telstra invested $11.8 billion in its mobile network nationally, including $4.3 billion directed towards regional infrastructure.

“As a company, we heavily invest in improving regional connectivity and this site is another example of our commitment,” he said.
