TWO new programs aimed at supporting women living with the long-term impacts of trauma will launch in Mullumbimby this autumn.
Delivered by Women’s Health Northern Rivers, the evidence-based therapeutic group programs Shark Cage and Heartfelt House Healing Pathways offer structured, compassionate approaches to recovery for women affected by experiences such as childhood sexual abuse, sexual assault and domestic or family violence.
Demand for professionally facilitated support groups has risen in recent years, as communities across the Northern Rivers continue to navigate the cumulative effects of natural disasters, housing instability and limited access to mental health services.
Both programs are designed to help participants rebuild confidence, strengthen personal boundaries and reconnect with a sense of safety and self-worth.
Shark Cage is a strengths-based, feminist program for women who have experienced sexual assault or domestic and family violence. It supports participants to better understand trauma responses, recognise their rights, and develop practical tools for boundary-setting and self-protection.
Heartfelt House Healing Pathways, delivered in partnership with IPARVAN and Medicare Mental Health, is a 10-week therapeutic group for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. The program provides a safe and confidential environment to explore the impacts of trauma, reduce shame and build connection with others who share similar experiences.
Both programs are facilitated by trained counsellors and run in small groups to ensure privacy, safety and meaningful participation.
Previous participants have reported increased confidence, reduced isolation, improved emotional regulation and a stronger sense of empowerment, with many describing the programs as life-changing.
The free programs are open to women aged 18 and over and will be held at the Yellow Church on Myocum Street, Mullumbimby. Donations are welcome.
Heartfelt House Healing Pathways will run on Wednesdays from 29 April to 1 July, while Shark Cage will be held on Thursdays from 7 May to 25 June.
