NORTHERN Rivers residents are being encouraged to nominate a local nurse or midwife for the 2025 Healing Heart Consumer Appreciation Award.

The annual honour, part of the Northern NSW Local Health District Excellence in Nursing and Midwifery Awards, recognises outstanding care, compassion, professionalism and kindness.

The awards celebrate the contributions of nurses and midwives working across hospitals and health services in the region.

Monday marked International Day of the Midwife, and NSW Health chief nursing and midwifery officer Jacqui Cross praised midwives for their passion and leadership.

“When I speak with our midwives, I am always inspired by their commitment to bring the best possible skill and support to the women and families of NSW,” Cross said.

“I also love seeing strong midwifery leadership and passionate midwives leading innovative and sustainable models of care that meet the needs of the community.”

Minister for Health Ryan Park also acknowledged the critical role of midwives across the state “Our midwives play an essential role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of mothers and their babies, and I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of them working across NSW Health,” Park said,

“Each year, around 90,000 babies are born across the state, and midwives are at the heart of those journeys – offering expertise, compassion and unwavering care.”
