School’s town and gown event highlights emerging artists
A RECORD number of entries have been received for the annual Lennox Head Lions Town and Gown Art Exhibition, which showcases emerging artists and raises funds for local schoolchildren.
Held at Lennox Head Public School, the event has attracted about 230 artworks this year, including paintings, photography and pottery by artists from across the region.
Pieces are priced between $200 and $500, with organisers hoping to raise $5000.
The exhibition runs from today, Friday, September 19, to Sunday, with a range of activities for children and parents throughout the weekend.
“It’s a big job when all the paintings arrive and we get a lot of help from the Lesley Ryan art group,” Lions event organiser Derek Audus said.
“They do a lot of the work, and we couldn’t do it without them.
“There is also about 20 paintings from the kids that go to a silent auction each year. It’s a good way to get them and the parents involved.
“Each artist can submit up to five entries and we’re expecting about 100 people at the official opening.”
The school will be open over the weekend from 9am to 4pm, with entry by gold coin donation.
Opening night is an adults-only event, with $10 tickets and a lucky door prize.
