Strong and Resilient Communities grants announced
FEDERAL MP for Richmond Justine Elliot announced the recipients of the Federal Government’s Strong and Resilient Communities (SARC) – Inclusive Communities Grants in Murwillumbah this week.
The program addresses barriers faced by disadvantaged communities and empowers vulnerable people to participate socially and economically.
The Murwillumbah Community Centre’s Nullum House will receive a $360,000 grant under the initiative.
The Assistant Minister for Social Services and Assistant Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence said the centre was an essential social inclusion drop-in centre by supporting those facing social isolation, homelessness, mental health concerns, or economic disadvantage.
“Labor governments have a proud history of supporting the Murwillumbah Community Centre. In fact, I was here at this same spot at Nullum House in 2011, announcing alongside our now Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, that a re-elected Labor Government would proudly build a new centre,” Elliot said.
“As your local Labor MP, I delivered on my $2 million election commitment to build the new centre, which was completed in 2012 and today provides a diverse range of vital community services.”
Agape Outreach was also the recipient of a $360,000. The organisation supports people with disability and mental health issues to strengthen social connections and a sense of belonging and to build life and employment skills.
“We’re supporting better outcomes for people with disability through this significant investment to assist our most vulnerable, including through job readiness training and one-on-one mental health sessions,” Elliot said.
“Between mental health supports, skill-building sessions and workshops, this funding boost will support a sense of belonging and ensure participants are well-equipped to contribute to thrive in our community.”
