THE Voice star Chang Po Chin led the crowd in song at the Ballina Christmas Carnival & Carols on the Sunday afternoon.
Matt Tanttari, who runs the annual event at Limitless Church alongside his wife Rachael, said the season seven semi-finalist was a huge hit with the crowd.
“They absolutely loved him — his cheer, his joy,” he said.
“Chang has a lot of local connections. Before he was on The Voice he studied contemporary music at Southern Cross University in Lismore.”
As well as singing carols including O Come, All Ye Faithful, Joy to the World, Little Drummer Boy, Silent Night, and We Wish You a Merry Christmas, families who attended the event also enjoyed activities such as face painting and a jumping castle.
“It was a great atmosphere with people sharing why Christmas means a lot to them,” Tanttari said.
The annual event began during the COVID-19 pandemic, with 900 people registering to attend the first year.
“We love talking on a slightly deeper level about what Jesus means to us, and offering that message when Christmas is everywhere seems like a good idea to us,” Tanttari said.
“We also like to pray for people a simple yet powerful blessing over their Christmas season. A lot of people do it tough this time of year, so we’ve found these events popular.”
