TWEED Shire Council is seeking passionate community members to join the Community Climate Action Group to guide local responses to climate change and develop regional climate change solutions.

With a mission to lead, motivate and support local climate change solutions, the group will agree to its Terms of Reference and provide input to the Council’s climate change program.

Related activities will include supporting the Climate Futures: Engaging Community event in February 2025 and documenting community projects and actions into a Community Climate Action Plan.

In addition, the group will lead and support the delivery of community emissions reduction actions and projects and provide input into Tweed Shire Council’s climate change work program.

Community and individual actions can influence the Tweed’s overall greenhouse gas emissions by 10-15 per cent.

While the Council works towards its climate change action plan, renewable energy action plan and adaptation plans, the community group has a crucial role in a sustainable livable future for the Tweed’s unique natural environment.

Applicants expressing interest should demonstrate an awareness of climate change and its economic, social, and environmental opportunities and challenges and examples of action and involvement in community projects.

Previous experience with climate science, action, and engagement is valuable, as is prior membership in committees, organisations, or community groups.

The group will meet quarterly, or as determined by the group, on an ongoing basis.

Participants will be asked to look beyond personal interests for the benefit of the community and to commit to the project for the required duration, including pre-reading and attendance at 75 per cent of meetings as a minimum.
