TWEED Regional Museum, the premier resource for Tweed’s history, is celebrating two decades of telling the region’s stories.

The 2024 birthday theme is ‘All things Tweed; our people, places, biodiversity and history,’ and the museum plans a series of events, including a street party that will expand into surrounding neighbourhoods and feature activities and entertainment for all ages.

As part of the celebrations, Omnia: All and Everything will be on exhibition until November 23. This unique exhibition, curated to redefine the traditional museum experience, invites visitors to walk through the vibrant history, dynamic present and promising future of the Tweed Shire.

The exhibition pushes the boundaries of conventional museum displays, offering many layers of engagement. Unusually curated objects aim to intrigue visitors by exploring stories such as community resilience, discomfort and danger.

A dedicated section titled Tall Tales and True delves into five intriguing stories from the collection, inviting visitors to ponder their authenticity.

Museum Director Molly Green said Omnia breathes new life into traditional collections, redefining the very essence of what a museum can be.

“Featuring more than 200 objects, many of which have never seen the light of day, Omnia is an exploration of our vibrant history,” Ms Green said.

“We’ve pushed the boundaries of conventional displays, creating an immersive experience with so many layers of history, stories and wonder for the whole family to delve into.”

These wonders include a stunning new rainbow gallery – a wonderland of colour to spin a zoetrope, chat through vintage rotary phones, and find your special place on a giant magnetic map, and the immersive world of Mini Murwillumbah offering wild stories of fires, swamp beer, and ghosts, all intertwining with iconic buildings against the backdrop of Mount Wollumbin.

The street party on August 31 promises vibrant, family fun with live music, live art, food trucks, adventure games, workshops, talks, prizes, exhibitions, chill zones and Museum on Wheels.

It’s a day filled with activities and entertainment for art and history lovers of all ages.
