TWEED Shire Council has received a $60,000 NSW Government grant to support its agribusiness environmental education initiatives.

The Cultivating Tomorrow: Empowering Tweed Shire Farmers through Regenerative Agribusiness Mastery is funded by the latest round of the NSW Environmental Trust’s Environmental Education Grants Program worth $980,538 between seven projects around the state.

Farmers with advanced agribusiness skills will benefit from the shift towards adopting regenerative agricultural practices and be empowered to expand their initiatives.

Member for Lismore, Janelle Saffin, said the project would benefit the Tweed region.

“This project is to overcome barriers to sustainable farming practices, and I look forward to the results of this fantastic local project,” she said.

“These environmental education projects play an important role in transforming community knowledge and skills.

“Inspiring more members of our community to become environmental stewards will result in improved local environments that can be appreciated and enjoyed well into the future.

Tweed Shire Council offers specialised short courses, workshops, and coaching sessions and supports farmer-led projects to overcome barriers to implementing sustainable methods.
