THE Tweed Shire is hosting a rich program of events throughout the area for NSW Youth Week, which runs until April 17.

This year’s theme celebrates every young person’s unique strengths and recognises their individual and collective power as current and future influencers, leaders and decision-makers.

A highlight is the third Murbah Youth Fest 2025, the biggest youth-led celebration of young people in the Tweed, which will be held at Knox Park Murwillumbah on Saturday, April 12.

Festival favourites Battle of the Bands and Talent Quest return, alongside the Cosplay Contest, an art stall for young artists to showcase and sell their work, and a variety of market stalls for young creatives.

The Fest is organised by the Murwillumbah Community Centre and supported by the Murwillumbah Youth Action Group, which received the 2024 Community Event of the Year award at the Council’s Australia Day Awards.

Tweed Shire mayor Chris Cherry said the extended celebrations reflected the value the community places on its young people.

“Our young people are the heart of the Tweed’s future,” Cr Cherry said.

“NSW Youth Week is a great opportunity to celebrate their energy and ideas – and to show them we’re listening, we value their voices, and we’re here to support them to thrive.

“It’s also great that this week falls within the school holidays, as we have some fantastic events and activities

for young people of all ages to enjoy,” she said.

Tweed Regional Museum and Tweed Regional Gallery are hosting a series of hands-on workshops, including Charms for the Charming Jewellery Workshop and Digital Drawing Workshop at the museum, and free drop-in sessions on making woven wristbands with Bulaan Buruugaa Ngali artist Kyra Togo.

Tweed Heads Library will host a free Aikido (Japanese martial arts) demonstration.

Dates and details are available on their respective websites.

More than 500 young people provided input into Tweed Council’s new Youth Outdoor Recreation Action Plan 2025–2035. The plan’s vision is to improve outdoor spaces across the Tweed and create more inclusive, active, and welcoming environments for young residents.
