High performance holiday surfing camp

KEEN young surfers can participate in an exclusive high-performance surfing camp in Byron Bay during the school holidays from October 9 to 11.

The Blackball Ultimate Grom Surf Camp, a one-of-a-kind experience led by Luke Stedman, caters to ages eight to16, and is held in two tiers of intermediate boys and advanced boys, split into two age groups.

Both camps afford opportunities for athletes to engage with former WSL professional surfers, mentors and peers to enhance their skills in a supportive, professional environment.

The advanced camp is a perfect fit for surfers who are confidently riding the waves on their own and are eager to refine their skills and take their surfing to the next level.

Participants can look forward to mastering complex manoeuvres such as powerful cutbacks, critical re-entries, and smooth transitions. These focus areas are designed to enhance performance and style, providing a comprehensive learning experience.

Coaches observe, film, and photograph each participant’s surfing, providing detailed, objective feedback without being in the water.

The camp also includes expert training with professional surfers with years of experience competing and developing athletes, high-performance insights, surf video analysis, strength and conditioning, surf skating, surf contests, ocean awareness, safety and rescue.

The intermediate boys camp is suitable for surfers who can catch green waves, paddle into the lineup alone, and stand up and go straight on a wave with decent control. The intermediate level focus is to improve catching more quality green waves, learning manoeuvres such as cutbacks, wave selection, perfecting duck diving, and speed generation.

Both programs aim to help participants improve their surfing skills, gain practical tools for navigating competitive environments, make new friends, and develop effective mental strategies to excel in the water and under pressure.
