A FORMER professional basketball player is bringing his popular Hoop Lab classes back to the Cavanbah Centre at Byron Bay.
The Gold Coast-based Liam Glazebrook runs a unique program which focuses on the players mindset and helping build young people on and off the court.
His holiday program takes in about 20 kids for a three-day camp starting Tuesday, April 22.
“I have kids from the Northern Rivers who come up to the Gold Coast for sessions and they were keen for us to come down there,” Glazebrook said.
“We’re now running quarterly classes at Byron Bay, and we’ve had a great response so far.
“I organise it with the (Byron Shire) council because we don’t want to step on anyone’s toes, we’re independent and keep to ourselves.
“We take on a holistic approach with focus on nutrition, hydration, pregame routine and everything they do off the court at home.”
Glazebrook said he got involved in coaching when the first of his five children started playing basketball.
He ramped up his program with private classes during the COVID-19 pandemic, before expanding to the group training sessions he runs now.
“I really had to get myself out there and build it up when my wife was pregnant with our fifth child,” he said.
“I’ve always been hyper-focused on sport and I’ve basically dedicated my life to it.
“Now I’ve coached more than 500 kids and we always seem to fill up whenever we run a camp
“It’s Individual coaching in a group setting.
“I get a good look at them early in our icebreaker and plan the training drills around any deficiencies that I see in their game.
The camp is expected to fill up with limited spots available.
