TWO Murwillumbah-trained horses are set to represent the Northern Rivers in The Kosciuszko, the world’s richest race for country-trained horses.

The $2 million race will be run at Randwick Racecourse this Saturday, October 18, as part of Everest Day.

Murwillumbah trainer Matt Dunn has confirmed four-year-old mare Without Parallel and gelding Golden Decade as his leading contenders.

“The Kosciuszko will be Without Parallel’s main target and I’m confident she’ll get in,” Dunn said. “She’s certainly got the talent to warrant a spot. She’s not that different to It’s Me before that mare won The Kosciuszko. She’s hit the ground running.”

Dunn said Golden Decade had also returned in top form.

“And Golden Decade’s come back better than ever,” he said. “He came from the back of the field to win over 1000 metres last start, beating Group Three winners. The Kosciuszko is a perfect race for him.”

Without Parallel is unbeaten in four career starts and is currently listed as a $15 chance with TAB. Golden Decade, with eight wins from 20 starts and more than $500,000 in prizemoney, is at $26.

“It’s always attractive to try and win a slot yourself as an owner,” Dunn said. “That way you get to keep all the prizemoney. But I’m sure there’s going to be interest in these two horses no matter what.”

Members of the public can buy $5 tickets through the TAB app, at local pubs and clubs, or at race meetings for a chance to win a share in a horse running in The Kosciuszko.
