THE Little Athletics sign on for the next season begins on August 1.

Angela Finkel from Tweed Little Athletics said the season would begin in September.

“We offer weekly competition for Under 6 to Under 17 athletes each Saturday morning at 8am. Athletes will develop skills in running, jumping and throwing.

“We compete as part of the South Coast region with Little Athletics Queensland for Regional Relays and Regional Championships.

The Tweed Little Athletics celebrated 40 years in November last year with a carnival, which included a band and food trucks to celebrate the milestone.

During the off-season, they hosted 23 school and district athletics carnivals with almost 8,000 students competing at Walter Peate Oval during this time.

“Coles, Little Athletics major sponsor assists with fundraising and barbeque cooking throughout the season,” Finkel said.

“Coles donate bananas for every athlete each week throughout our season.”

Tweed Little Athletics’ Daniel Frey recently represented Australia at the Oceania Championships in Fiji, achieving second place in shot put with a throw of 17.60m, while Australia women’s long jump record holder and Olympian Brooke Buschkuehl recently dropped in for a visit with athletes before heading to Paris.

“Athletes Blade, Kanay and Ellie represented Queensland in the Australian Little Athletics Championships in Adelaide,” Finkel said.
