{"id":101578,"date":"2024-08-20T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-19T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/byroncoasttimes\/?p=101578"},"modified":"2024-08-20T10:08:46","modified_gmt":"2024-08-20T00:08:46","slug":"road-racer-championships-at-lismore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/byroncoasttimes\/sport\/road-racer-championships-at-lismore\/","title":{"rendered":"Road racer championships at Lismore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MOTORBIKE riders across the state travelled to Lismore to compete in the first round<\/p>\n<p>of the NSW Short Course Road Race State Championships on August 3\u20134.<\/p>\n<p>Hosted by North Coast Road Racers, the event attracted more than 50 riders of all ages\u2014the youngest competitor was 4 years old, the oldest 78.<\/p>\n<p>Competitors got the chance to rub shoulders with a rider racing on the world stage when Australian champion and World Superbike rider Lachlan Epis took the track.<\/p>\n<p>Club president Matt Adamson said he was a welcome addition to the field.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2024\/08\/IMG_5334_41916.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lachlan Epic leads the field. Shaq&#8217;s Speedway Pics motorsport photography<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Luke was back in Australia, so he came for a ride with us,&#8221; Adamson said.<\/p>\n<p>Epis showed his talent, taking wins in the Road Race Heavy, Motard, and Open Road Race up to 500cc classes.<\/p>\n<p>Ned Cain won the Stock class, Paul Slade won Superlite, Jason Chapman the Road Race Lites, and Callum Campbell won Rookies.<\/p>\n<p>The club has a good pedigree for producing great competitors.<\/p>\n<p>One of the first riders to be issued a licence by the club was Luke Mitchell. Amongst his many achievements, Mitchell won the Metrakit World Mini GP in 2010 at the Moto GP at Silverstone.<\/p>\n<p>But the club events aren&#8217;t just for future world champions. Adamson said they run a recreational class for those learning to ride, or just wanting to have fun.<\/p>\n<p>The North Coast Road Racers was the first club in NSW to run approved road racing events for children.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2024\/08\/IMG_52202_41902.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A rider checks the field at the NSW Short Course Road Race State Championships at Lismore.
