{"id":106388,"date":"2025-01-02T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-01-01T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/byroncoasttimes\/?p=106388"},"modified":"2024-12-19T15:48:37","modified_gmt":"2024-12-19T04:48:37","slug":"turning-up-the-heat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/byroncoasttimes\/news\/turning-up-the-heat\/","title":{"rendered":"Turning up the heat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LUXURY Byron Bay guesthouse 28 Degrees has added five new villas to cater to growing demand.<\/p>\n<p>Owner Deb Garske bought the neighbouring property in Marvell Street to build the new wing, which has increased the number of rooms from seven to 12.<\/p>\n<p>Garske, who is also an interior designer, moved to Byron Bay from Sydney in 2012 with her husband Lyndon and two children.<\/p>\n<p>She quickly identified the need for a boutique five-star accommodation offering that was walking distance to cafes, restaurants and shops.<\/p>\n<p>At the time she was recovering from chemotherapy after being diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma and wanted to design the guesthouse to be toxin-free, with organic towels and sheets and sustainable cleaning products.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/01\/28DegreesByronBay.Ph_05209.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Inside a villa at 28 Degrees Byron Bay. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She named the property 28 Degrees because it is the latitude of both Byron Bay and Norfolk Island, where she grew up.<\/p>\n<p>As well as being surrounded by kentia palms, which thrive on the island, walls are adorned by works by a Norfolk Island artist.<\/p>\n<p>Several rooms in the TV-free, adults-only property have their own plunge pools and some have views to Cape Byron Lighthouse.<\/p>\n<p>They also feature antique clawfoot bathtubs, Iranian bathroom tiles, armchairs by Maker and Son, handmade rose marble cabinetry by local craftsmen, beeswax candles and ceramic cups by artist Madhavi Muncie.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/01\/Apoolat28DegreesinBy_14417.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A pool at 28 Degrees in Byron Bay. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Garske said the guesthouse was popular with both singles and couples.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When we opened, I found a lot of women were coming after a divorce,&#8221; she said. &#8220;They felt really safe because we are gated.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Then we started to get a following of people who wanted to get away and reconnect with their partners.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s amazing to watch the progress of people walking through the front door during their two-night stay.
