NORTHERN Rivers climate activists will mark the third anniversary of the devastating 2022 floods with a new campaign kicking off this weekend.<\/p>\n

The Climate Justice Campaign launch will be held at Brunswick Memorial Hall on Saturday March 1 from 1pm to 3pm.<\/p>\n

The event will feature local community speakers, information about climate solutions and opportunities for direct community involvement.<\/p>\n

“Three years after the floods changed everything, our community is coming together to demand real climate action,” Climate Justice Alliance Northern Rivers organiser Ches Hood Withey said.<\/p>\n

“With nearly half of Australians supporting a phase-out of coal and gas, it’s time for our political representatives to listen to their constituents and protect us from fossil fuelled floods.<\/p>\n

“This campaign represents a crucial moment for the Northern Rivers region. We’re inviting everyone who cares about our region’s future to join us and be part of this important movement for climate justice – we have all the renewable energy we need, it’s time to end coal and gas to protect us from further climate damage.”<\/p>\n

The campaign will focus on four key priorities \u2014 protecting native forests, renewable energy, building community-led climate solutions, and fighting coal, gas and nuclear power.<\/p>\n

Twenty-four-year-old Atticus Henderson, whose Banora Point house was heavily impacted by flooding in 2017, 2020 and 2022, said the government was not doing enough to combat the impacts of climate change so young people were coming together to help look after each other, just like they did in the floods, and build a safe and liveable future.<\/p>\n
