Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While parts of the shire have begun to recover, local businesses and residents are still dealing with the aftermath.<\/p>\n<p>Bookshop owner Angela Pereira said raising her Pulp Fiction store after previous floods had spared her from major damage this time.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were badly hit by the 2017 and 2022 floods and completely inundated,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We lost most of our stock and sustained a lot of damage. Twice. Photo: KATE GODBEE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We raised our house after the 2017 floods, and it has cost us in the ballpark of $40,000 to raise the shop after 2022.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But we received no help whatsoever, not even a waiver of the $10,000 in council fees.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I wouldn&#8217;t be in business at all if it wasn&#8217;t for this local community&#8217;s love and unwavering support.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They&#8217;ve been there every time, in the mud army, the clean-ups, helping replenish stock and the loyal customers who have stuck by us. Resident Kate Godbee, who has yet to have her power restored, thanked local business owners for their support.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Despite the devastating news of being broken into and robbed the night before, they didn&#8217;t hesitate to come out and help move a problematic gum tree that was blocking our power connection,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Their dedication and kindness are truly inspiring. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Murwillumbah occupational therapist Roxane Carbery said the flooding left many of her clients isolated from their usual support services.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It would have been very difficult for those clients who would usually be out of the house by 7.30 am,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They have six hours of support daily to engage in stimulating sensory seeker activities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A friend of mine has a high-needs son who usually has six hours of care.
