{"id":109348,"date":"2025-03-25T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-24T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/byroncoasttimes\/?p=109348"},"modified":"2025-03-19T22:07:40","modified_gmt":"2025-03-19T11:07:40","slug":"sport-season-back-in-full-swing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/byroncoasttimes\/sport\/sport-season-back-in-full-swing\/","title":{"rendered":"Sport season back in full swing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A NEW all-girls event and a bull riding spectacular are among the most anticipated sports rescheduled after widespread postponements due to the threat of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.<\/p>\n<p>The Girls Day Out has been set down for Saturday, March 29 at Megan Crescent Oval, Lennox Head.<\/p>\n<p>The day showcases multiple sports in quick succession, with participation and support from professional female athletes.<\/p>\n<p>Another sport will be added to the program, with the Ballina Indoor Sports Centre to be used as a back-up for wet weather.<\/p>\n<p>Each sport has a professional athlete assigned to it, with players from either the AFLW or NRLW usually part of the action.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are back on sale, with refunds available for anyone who can&#8217;t attend the new date.<\/p>\n<p>Updates on venues and sports can be found on the Girls Day Out Facebook page.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, another new event has been rescheduled with the Bulls, Broncs and Barrels rodeo coming to the Alstonville Showground on Friday, April 25.<\/p>\n<p>It features steer wrestling, saddle bronc, rope and tie, and multiple bull riding competitions, including bareback rides.<\/p>\n<p>The event, organised by the Alstonville Agriculture Society, is part of the National Rodeo Association.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/03\/1-88431_07914.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Bulls, Broncs and Barrels rodeo event has been rescheduled for Friday, April 25 at the Alstonville Showground. Photo: BECCA MAY PHOTOGRAPHY.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It will also feature country and western market stalls and food vendors.<\/p>\n<p>Gates open at 4pm, with full bar facilities run by the show society.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are available online at <a href=\"http:\/\/alstonvilleshow.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">alstonvilleshow.com<\/a>, with discounts for early purchases, or at the gate on the day.<\/p>\n<p>The Kingscliff Triathlon was one of the bigger events affected, with hundreds of people expected to compete.<\/p>\n<p>Event organisers have postponed the event, with the triathlon now likely to be held in May.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Cudgen Creek remains unsafe for swimming, and it is unlikely that the creek will get to safe conditions (in time),&#8221; a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A new date in late May is pending approval, and all entries will be automatically transferred.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The monster truck show scheduled for the Lismore showground on March 8 has no new confirmed date.<\/p>\n<p>It was scheduled to be held for the first time at Lismore since 2019 but will struggle to get another date, with a number of other events already booked in at the Lismore showground.<\/p>\n<p>All Far North Coast cricket competitions have returned in time for finals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A NEW all-girls event and a bull riding spectacular are among the most anticipated sports rescheduled after widespread postponements due to the threat of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
