ALSTONVILLE Cultural Centre is set for its first major upgrade since the site was first built more than 40 years ago.<\/p>\n
Plans include a new library, improved sporting facilities, an expanded foyer, new office spaces, and air conditioning in the multipurpose hall.<\/p>\n
It will receive a further boost with Page MP Kevin Hogan announcing an $80,000 investment to install solar panels at the centre if a Coalition government is elected at the upcoming election.<\/p>\n
“This is a very unique space in our community, and the current facilities are well past their use-by date,” Mr Hogan said.<\/p>\n
“This combined project is a major investment in our community, ensuring that residents have access to modern facilities that serve a variety of purposes.”<\/p>\n
“The addition of solar panels aims to reduce ongoing running costs, making sure this space remains affordable for all users.”<\/p>\n
In 2021, Ballina Shire Council endorsed a concept design to refurbish the centre, including a new two-storey library annex.<\/p>\n
By 2022, an architectural consultant was engaged to deliver detailed designs, engineering specifications, and cost estimates for this significant project.<\/p>\n
The redevelopment will transform the centre into an accessible, modern, and fully compliant facility<\/p>\n
The complex has been a base for several sports over the years and has also been an evacuation centre during the floods in recent years.<\/p>\n
Ballina Shire mayor Sharon Cadwallader welcomed the proposed additional funding with work expected to begin later this year.<\/p>\n
