{"id":109867,"date":"2025-04-09T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-08T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/byroncoasttimes\/?p=109867"},"modified":"2025-04-04T10:42:51","modified_gmt":"2025-04-03T23:42:51","slug":"say-ciao-to-italian-street-food-eatery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/byroncoasttimes\/news\/say-ciao-to-italian-street-food-eatery\/","title":{"rendered":"Say ciao to Italian street food eatery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A NEW Italian street food restaurant Piada Co. has opened in the space that was previously home to Barrio and Nourishing Habitat in Byron Bay&#8217;s industrial estate.<\/p>\n<p>The eatery is the second venue to open after the brand launched in Burleigh Heads in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Its specialty is its fresh, handmade piadinas \u2014 a thin, hand-rolled Italian flatbread.<\/p>\n<p>The menu also includes artisanal pizza, pasta, tiramisu, cannoli and gelato.<\/p>\n<p>Piada Co. was founded by Andrea and Alexa Fabrizio and their friends Simon Bird and Bree Edwards, who also run Burleigh Gelato Co.<\/p>\n<p>The two couples met when they both had shops in the suburb.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Andrea is Italian and regularly returns there with Alexa and son Leone,&#8221; Edwards said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They already had another Italian restaurant at Palm Beach on the Gold Coast, The Deli by Pepe. Simon and I have been to Italy a few times but love to spend as much time as we can in the Mediterranean in general.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/04\/PiadaCo.hasopenedatH_66775.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Piada Co. has opened at Habitat. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Andrea came to us with the idea of a piadinaria after we all got back from their wedding in Italy in 2023, and the idea just evolved from there.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We decided to focus on piadinas as there are very few places in Australia that offer them \u2014 a couple of restaurants around the country \u2014 and then a few food trucks as well.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Edwards said she loved that they were fresh and easy to eat.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They don&#8217;t have as much bread as your classic focaccia sandwich, and they are damn delicious,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>The mum of three, who has a background in fashion marketing, said the restaurant has a modern yet traditional retro feel.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s somewhere you can co me for a quick bite, or a long meal with friends and family,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A NEW Italian street food restaurant Piada Co. has opened in the space that was previously home to Barrio and Nourishing Habitat in Byron Bay&#8217;s industrial estate.
