{"id":110164,"date":"2025-04-15T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-14T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/byroncoasttimes\/?p=110164"},"modified":"2025-04-09T23:22:08","modified_gmt":"2025-04-09T13:22:08","slug":"city-to-build-new-changerooms-for-women","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/byroncoasttimes\/news\/city-to-build-new-changerooms-for-women\/","title":{"rendered":"City to build new changerooms for women"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>INVESTMENT in the future of female talent will be boosted by new facilities in a planned $1 million upgrade at Lismore Rugby Union Club.<\/p>\n<p>Page MP Kevin Hogan has committed to funding the project if the Coalition is elected at the coming federal election.<\/p>\n<p>Plans include an upgrade to the clubhouse and new female changerooms and toilets.<\/p>\n<p>It will also include an accessible toilet and shower, an officials room and refurbished bar and canteen areas.<\/p>\n<p>Lismore City rugby union club has some of the highest female participation numbers across the zone.<\/p>\n<p>It has won grand finals and has had junior and senior women compete in representative teams at NSW Country level and overseas.<\/p>\n<p>City president Emily Cox has played and coached in senior teams at the club in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This will change the game for the ladies and girls here at Lismore rugby club,&#8221; Cox said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/04\/486837364_1288912939_75941.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"534\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Upgrades at Lismore rugby club will be funded by the Coalition government if it is elected at the upcoming federal election. Photo: SUPPLIED.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It will help us continue to be the largest club for female participation in the zone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>City has a strong junior base in the boys competition and has developed those players into the senior grades over the past few seasons.<\/p>\n<p>The club has more than 500 members and is one of the longest-running clubs in the Far North Coast competition.<\/p>\n<p>It operates its own field and clubhouse and will contribute $120,000 towards the project.<\/p>\n<p>The club has done well to rebuild and return to the park, having not missed a season since the devastating floods in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>It has been all hands on deck since then, with City one of the only clubs in the zone to field four teams in the senior competition.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve slowly been working away at trying to upgrade the facilities with lights, sheds and new mowers,&#8221; coach Peter Everingham said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The addition of a new set of (female) change rooms is key to upgrades.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>INVESTMENT in the future of female talent will be boosted by new facilities in a planned $1 million upgrade at Lismore Rugby Union Club.
