TWEED Shire Council has adopted a new five-year strategy to support the region’s growing population of older residents.<\/p>\n

The Ageing Well in the Tweed Strategy 2024\u20132029 was endorsed at last months council meeting and sets out 22 key actions to help people over 65 live active, healthy and connected lives.<\/p>\n

The number of Tweed residents aged over 65 is expected to double in the next two decades.<\/p>\n

The strategy was shaped by feedback from 178 community members, 11 health and aged care providers, and 12 in-depth interviews with local services and groups.<\/p>\n

Its four core themes are safety, connection, resilience and health.<\/p>\n

Key initiatives include advocating for age-friendly public spaces and infrastructure, establishing a Seniors Advisory Group, supporting healthy ageing programs, and improving access to services and information.<\/p>\n
