Two construction crews will be working simultaneously to excavate the road shoulder, install new kerbs and gutters, and upgrade drainage infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This means sections of car parking on the foreshore side of South Beach Road will become a construction site and parking and access must be further restricted to prioritise safety for the community and workers,&#8221; Byron Shire Council&#8217;s director of infrastructure Phil Holloway said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We also need to temporarily close Torakina car park for public use during this next stage of works so we can safely use the plant and machinery required.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/05\/SouthBeachRoadkerbpr_99522.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"830\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">South Beach Road kerb preparation. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Once this stage is complete, reconstruction and sealing will begin along the entire stretch of road \u2014from the bridge to the cul-de-sac \u2014 followed by line marking and landscaping.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Holloway said the project remains on schedule for completion in August, weather permitting.<\/p>\n<p>South Beach Road is a vital access route to local amenities including the beach, the Brunswick River, the south wall, the surf club, community centre and tennis courts.<\/p>\n<p>Byron Shire Council has invested $1.2 million in the upgrade, with more than $1 million contributed by the NSW Government. An additional $500,000 in funding came from the Federal Government&#8217;s Roads to Recovery program.<\/p>\n<p>Although the current project does not include resurfacing South Beach Lane \u2014 located off South Beach Road alongside Simpsons Creek \u2014 Council intends to seek future funding for road and drainage improvements in that area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ROADWORKS on South Beach Road in Brunswick Heads will ramp up in coming weeks as Byron Shire Council closes the Torakina car park for the next phase of a $2.7 million upgrade.
