{"id":111450,"date":"2025-05-19T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-05-18T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/byroncoasttimes\/?p=111450"},"modified":"2025-05-14T21:41:29","modified_gmt":"2025-05-14T11:41:29","slug":"work-to-repair-significant-landslip-in-the-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/byroncoasttimes\/news\/work-to-repair-significant-landslip-in-the-region\/","title":{"rendered":"Work to repair significant landslip in the region"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WORK to repair a major landslip at Stony Chute and other damaged roads will ramp up across the Lismore LGA in the coming months following recent severe weather.<\/p>\n<p>Lismore City Council said heavy rainfall in March and April worsened an existing slip near the junction of Stony Chute Road, Whitney Road and Zouch Road.<\/p>\n<p>The landslip spans approximately 30 metres and affects private properties on both sides of Stony Chute Road.<\/p>\n<p>Following assessment, the road was closed for safety and to prevent further damage.<\/p>\n<p>The closure is expected to remain in place until at least August, while funding has been secured<\/p>\n<p>and crews are mobilised to begin the repairs.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/05\/495894515_1076742497_19989.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"792\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Damage from some of the worst affected roads in the region. Photo: SUPPLIED.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The works form part of Council&#8217;s broader Flood Restoration Portfolio.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency road repairs funded by Transport for NSW under the Essential Public Asset Restoration Program are also continuing, alongside response works triggered by Cyclone Alfred.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency works will continue through to mid-June and have included inspections across all asset classes, including roads, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To date, 1120 instances of damage have been identified from the March weather event, with over 50 per cent across our road network,&#8221; a council spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These assessments will guide our prioritised program of works.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WORK to repair a major landslip at Stony Chute and other damaged roads will ramp up across the Lismore LGA in the coming months following recent severe weather.
