The initiative provides care bags filled with essentials such as a blanket, toothbrush and snacks.<\/p>\n<p>The couple were inspired to start the charity after their own experience in ICU when their 31-year-old son, Jaaden, suffered a critical brain injury in an e-scooter accident in Byron Bay last year.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/05\/RossAbrahamreachesth_51896.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"898\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ross Abraham reaches the Northern Territory border. Photo: JUDE KALMAN<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Through his campaign, The Longest Ride, Abraham hopes to fund 4,300 care bags \u2014 one for every kilometre pedalled.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My son was always full of energy and life,&#8221; Abraham said. &#8220;He loved anyone who did something out of the box, so I think he&#8217;d be cheering me on.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Starting in Perth, Abraham has cycled through Kalgoorlie, Uluru, Broken Hill and Bourke, averaging around 150 kilometres a day.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/05\/RossAbrhamatThePinkR_55561.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"401\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ross Abrham at The Pink Roadhouse on the Oodnadatta Track. Photo: JUDE KALMAN<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s been tough, as you can imagine, with all the gravel roads, headwinds and corrugations,&#8221; he said. &#8220;And I&#8217;ve seen enough flies to last me a lifetime.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To keep costs low, Abraham has been camping each night. Besides the roadhouse pies, he said the best thing about the trip has been the people he&#8217;s met along the way.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I met a couple who lost their son 18 years ago in a surfing accident and we had a hug on the side of the road,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/05\/RossandJaadenAbraham_57764.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"711\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ross with his son Jaaden.
