AROUND 130 community members gathered at the Moller Pavilion in Bangalow Showground last week for Bangalow’s Biggest Morning Tea, raising more than $5,600 for the Cancer Council.<\/p>\n

Hosted by the Bangalow Country Women’s Association (CWA), the event featured homemade scones, cakes, slices and finger sandwiches prepared by CWA members. There was also a trading table and raffle, with donation boxes placed on tables throughout the venue.<\/p>\n

NSW Cancer Council Byron Bay coordinator Jay Richardson and skin cancer doctor Dr Paddy McLisky from Helios Skin Care in Byron Bay spoke about cancer prevention and support services.<\/p>\n

“It was fantastic,” Bangalow CWA acting president Michelle Johnston said. “We had no idea what to expect because we’d never hosted it before \u2013 it was previously organised by Bangalow Quilters. You couldn’t have fit many more people into the Moller Pavilion.<\/p>\n

“It was a total success \u2013 we’re doing it again next year on the same day and at the same place.”<\/p>\n

CWA member Trisha Bleakley said the event was warm and welcoming, filled with chatter, laughter and delicious food. “There was wonderful community support and participation for a very special cause,” she said.<\/p>\n

Bangalow’s Biggest Morning Tea was part of a national fundraising initiative supporting cancer research, prevention and support services for people affected by cancer, with events held across the country on the same day. Services include transport for patients and carers, subsidised accommodation, free legal and financial advice and wigs and headwear for those experiencing hair loss due to treatment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
