Cherry pointed to the growth of local signature events such as Savour the Tweed, which highlights agritourism and the region’s produce, and the expanding Murwillumbah Art Trail as key examples.<\/p>\n
One of the most anticipated sessions featured Gus Balbontin, former executive director of Lonely Planet, who shared insights from his years of experience in global travel and innovation.<\/p>\n
“He was just incredibly inspiring. He reminded us not to get stuck in old habits and to try something new if we want different results,” Cherry said.<\/p>\n
Delegates also visited local attractions including Husk Distillery, Tropical Fruit World, the Northern Rivers Rail Trail and Halcyon House for a firsthand look at the region’s appeal.<\/p>\n

Despite recent challenges including major rain events earlier this year, Cherry said the outlook for the Tweed’s visitor economy was positive.<\/p>\n
“Our visitor numbers have now surpassed pre-COVID levels and international visitor numbers are up 47 per cent on last year,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Those hard times don’t define us.<\/p>\n
