The relocation will also allow the hospital’s mobile unit \u2014 affectionately known as ‘Matilda’ \u2014 to be used for field work, research, community education, and rapid response to wildlife affected by natural disasters.<\/p>\n
Established in 2020, Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital provides expert veterinary care free of charge to wildlife rescuers and members of the public who encounter sick, injured or orphaned native animals.<\/p>\n
It uses state-of-the-art medical equipment funded by philanthropy, sponsorship, bequests, grants and community fundraising, recently treating its 10,000th patient \u2014 a short-beaked echidna found riddled with ticks, broken quills, hair loss and conjunctivitis.<\/p>\n
