THIRTY\u2011THREE groups and individuals have been nominated in the 2025 Tweed Sustainability Awards<\/a>, with locals invited to help decide the People’s Choice winner.<\/p>\n

Launched in 2019 and held every two years, the awards recognise businesses, schools, farmers and community groups leading environmental initiatives across the shire.<\/p>\n

Mayor Chris Cherry said the nominees reflected the community’s creativity and commitment to protecting the environment.<\/p>\n

“I’m truly impressed by the creativity and impact demonstrated by this year’s nominees,” Cherry said.<\/p>\n

“The quality of nominees reflects diverse sustainability efforts in education, conservation, business innovation and community projects.<\/p>\n

“I particularly enjoy how the nominees have harnessed their passion and dedication to deliver meaningful projects that have a real and lasting impact on the environment.”<\/p>\n

Projects include school composting programs, backyard wildlife habitats, renewable energy initiatives, eco\u2011tourism ventures and sustainable farming practices. Notably, the inaugural Urban Rewilding<\/a> category recognises efforts to restore native biodiversity within home and urban spaces.<\/p>\n

People\u2019s Choice voting<\/a> is open until midnight on September\u202f14, with one vote allowed per person. The People’s Choice winner will be announced alongside the judged category winners at the October ceremony.<\/p>\n
