BALLINA has recorded its highest monthly rainfall in 33 years, with 123mm falling since midnight Tuesday.
\nThe deluge pushed the August total to 279mm, according to Seven Coast News.
\nHeavy rain triggered flash flooding across Ballina and Lennox Head, with Ross Lane once again among the worst affected. In Bangalow in the Byron Bay hinterland, a serious accident occurred when two vehicles collided with a car and a bus, prompting a major emergency response.
\nThe Hinterland Way was closed in both directions near Sunnycrest Lane as crews worked to free trapped passengers. It is understood the bus was carrying Mullumbimby High School students home when the crash happened around 4pm. The road reopened at about 8.45pm.
\nAccess was further complicated when Friday Hut Road at Possum Creek became impassable due to a flooded causeway. Some streets in Bangalow, including Beacon Street and George Street, were also inundated, while this weekend\u2019s monthly markets due to take place at Bangalow Showground have been cancelled due to waterlogged grounds.<\/p>\n

Although conditions eased today, the SES is warning motorists and residents to remain cautious.
\n\u201cIf you come across a flooded road, turn around. Never drive, play or walk in floodwaters,\u201d an SES spokesperson said.
\nResidents are urged to download the Hazards Near Me<\/a> app for updates, as flash flooding can occur suddenly and without warning.
\nLooking ahead, the Bureau of Meteorology says there is only a slight chance of showers today, with mostly fine weather forecast for the weekend. Around 1mm of rain is expected on Sunday.
\nFor assistance during floods and storms, call the NSW SES on 132 500. In life-threatening emergencies, dial Triple Zero (000).<\/p>\n
