A NEW Medicare Urgent Care Clinic is planned for the Tweed region, with a tender process underway to identify a provider.<\/p>\n
Labor member for Richmond Justine Elliot said the facility would make urgent medical care more accessible for local families.<\/p>\n
“All you will need is your Medicare card, not your credit card,” Elliot said.<\/p>\n
The clinic will operate seven days a week with extended hours and walk-in appointments, and all patients will be fully bulk billed.<\/p>\n
The North Coast Primary Health Network has opened tenders to general practices, community health centres and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services to run the clinic.<\/p>\n
Ninety Medicare Urgent Care Clinics are already operating across Australia, recording more than 1.8 million presentations since June 2023.<\/p>\n
In New South Wales, 22 clinics have handled more than 355,000 presentations, with more than one in four visits taking place on weekends.<\/p>\n
Elliot said the investment built on the Federal Government’s promise to strengthen Medicare.<\/p>\n
“This extends on the Albanese Labor Government’s commitment to strengthening Medicare, with the single largest investment in Medicare since its creation over 40 years ago,” she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
