MORE than 50 riders took part in a new fundraising ride supporting the Northern Rivers Suicide Prevention and Awareness Group.<\/p>\n

The event, called Beyond the Blue, was organised by the Easyriders SMC Far North Coast probationary chapter and raised just over $3000.<\/p>\n

Riders travelled from Ballina to Murwillumbah and back along the old Pacific Highway, with participants coming from across the region.<\/p>\n

“We had a really good turnout, it’s great to be able to raise money for a great community organisation,” event organiser Nat Macey said.<\/p>\n

“I was hoping for 50 bikes and the fact that we got that many in pretty average weather was really pleasing.<\/p>\n

“I think it will be an annual thing, next year we’ll look to run it the weekend before Father’s Day.”<\/p>\n

Motorcycle clubs from Casino and Grafton also took part in the event.<\/p>\n

Macey said motorcycle clubs were a powerful vehicle for fundraising and spreading awareness on important issues.<\/p>\n

“There are so many motorcycle clubs in the region and we all support each other with fundraisers,” she said.<\/p>\n

“Suicide affects everyone, and it can be devastating for the people left behind.”<\/p>\n
